Faith 417
Christian devotion on forgiveness: the freedom of forgiveness
Forgiveness doesn’t start by pretending it didn’t hurt. It starts with telling God the truth about the wound, then remembering how much we’ve been forgiven. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32, ESV). Faith 417’s seven-day journey, The Freedom of Forgiveness, walks through honest lament, the decision to forgive, releasing revenge to God, and the difference between forgiveness and unsafe trust. Each day is about 5–8 minutes, with a reading, one truth, a short prayer, and one small step.
The seven days
- Day 1, Acknowledge the wound (Psalm 55:12–14)
- Day 2, Forgiven people forgive (Ephesians 4:32)
- Day 3, Forgiveness is a choice first (Colossians 3:13)
- Day 4, Cancel the debt (Matthew 18:21–35)
- Day 5, Forgiveness ≠ unsafe trust (Proverbs 4:23)
- Day 6, Bless instead of curse (Luke 6:27–28)
- Day 7, Walk free (Galatians 5:1)
Forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation or trust. If someone has abused or endangered you, forgiving them does not require you to stay in harm’s way. Talk with a pastor or counselor, and if you are in danger call 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
