Hope when marriage feels hard: a Christian devotion for couples
Strain in a marriage does not mean God has left the room. Faith 417’s seven-day journey, Hope When Marriage Feels Hard, is for couples (or one spouse) who still want God in the middle. It practices small, biblical habits like this one: “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1, ESV). Each day is about 5–8 minutes, with a reading, one truth, a short prayer, and one small step.
The seven days
- Day 1, Name the ache without blame (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10)
- Day 2, Soft answer, hard moment (Proverbs 15:1)
- Day 3, See the person, not only the problem (1 Peter 4:8)
- Day 4, Forgive as you’ve been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32)
- Day 5, Pray before the hard talk (Philippians 4:6–7)
- Day 6, Catch the little foxes (Song of Songs 2:15)
- Day 7, Hope for the long road (Romans 15:13)
A safety note: strain is not the same as abuse. If there is violence, sexual coercion, threats, or you are unsafe, seek help now from a pastor, a counselor, a trusted friend, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233). A soft answer and forgiveness do not require you to stay in danger.
If loneliness has crept into the marriage, the loneliness journey may help too.
