Christian devotion for depression: light when sadness feels heavy
Heavy sadness is not a faith failure, and it is not a verdict on you. “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, ESV). Faith 417’s seven-day journey, Light When Sadness Feels Heavy, is gentle and goes at your pace. Each day is about 5–8 minutes, with a reading, one truth, a short prayer, and one small step.
The seven days
- Day 1, God is near the low (Psalm 34:18)
- Day 2, Speak to your soul (Psalm 42:5)
- Day 3, Small steps count (Lamentations 3:22–23)
- Day 4, You are not alone in the dark (Isaiah 43:2)
- Day 5, Worth that doesn’t depend on mood (Romans 8:38–39)
- Day 6, Ask for help without shame (Galatians 6:2)
- Day 7, Hope that holds (Romans 15:13)
Please get care too: devotions support care, they don’t replace it. If sadness won’t lift, sleep or appetite are badly disrupted, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, reach a pastor, counselor, or doctor right away. In the U.S. you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time. Asking for help is wisdom, not weakness.
If grief is underneath the sadness, the grief journey may help, and if you feel alone in it, try the loneliness journey.
