Faith 417
Freedom from what controls you: a Christian devotional for addiction and binding habits
Substances, porn, gambling, screens: whatever has a hold on you, freedom starts by bringing it into the light. Paul wrote, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1, ESV). Faith 417’s seven-day journey, Freedom From What Controls You, covers naming the habit without losing your dignity, no condemnation in Christ, the way of escape God provides in temptation, confession in honest community, and walking free one day at a time. It offers truth and encouragement, not medical advice. Each day is about 5–8 minutes, with a reading, one truth, a short prayer, and one small step.
The seven days
- Day 1, Name it in the light (John 3:20–21)
- Day 2, You are more than the craving (Romans 8:1–2)
- Day 3, Escape is real (1 Corinthians 10:13)
- Day 4, Confess to heal (James 5:16)
- Day 5, Renew the mind (Romans 12:2)
- Day 6, Guard the gates (Psalm 101:3)
- Day 7, Walk free one day at a time (Galatians 5:1)
Addiction often needs more than willpower and devotion. Talk with a pastor, counselor, doctor, or recovery program. If you’re in danger from withdrawal or in crisis, get professional help immediately. SAMHSA’s National Helpline (free, confidential treatment referral, 24/7) is 1-800-662-4357. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911.
