Faith 417
Taming the tongue: a Christian devotional on gossip and careless words
Gossip can feel like harmless sharing until it costs a friendship. Paul wrote, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4:29, ESV). Faith 417’s seven-day journey, Taming the Tongue, covers the weight of words, how a whisperer separates close friends, being quick to listen and slow to speak, gracious speech, and repairing harm when your words have wounded. Each day is about 5–8 minutes, with a reading, one truth, a short prayer, and one small step.
The seven days
- Day 1, Words have weight (Proverbs 18:21)
- Day 2, Gossip’s real name (Proverbs 16:28)
- Day 3, Quick to listen (James 1:19)
- Day 4, Season with grace (Colossians 4:6)
- Day 5, Divert the gossip moment (Ephesians 4:29)
- Day 6, Confess and repair (Matthew 5:23–24)
- Day 7, A mouth that blesses (Psalm 19:14)
